Our Joint Apprenticeship Training and Committee offers a "earn while you learn" style program. The 5 year apprenticeship is a proven leader in industry training. Apprentice curriculum focuses on layout and fabrication, blueprint reading, architectural metal fabrication and install, CAD (computer assisted drawing), TAB (testing and balancing), welding (basic/advanced stick, MIG, TIG, with certification), service training with certification, and residential HVAC. Future training also includes Journeyman upgrade classes to keep current with new methods and technology.
TRAINING COORDINATOR
Mike has been the Training Coordinator for 3 years. Before becoming the Training Coordinator, Mike served one term (3 years) as Business Representative, and before that, served as the welding instructor for 12 years, training apprentices and journeymen in all processes related to welding. Mike is a Certified Weld Inspector by the American Welding Society.
JOURNEYMAN AT CORN STATE FABRICATORS
Chad instructs first year apprentices, which includes, basic pattern development, tools and equipment, trade history and drafting. Chad has been an instructor for five years, and has completed 4 years of Instructor training, through the “International Training Institute”. Chad is Journeyman Sheet Metal Worker, employed at Corn State Metal Fabricators in West Des Moines, Iowa.
JOURNEYMAN AT CORN STATE FABRICATORS
Steve instructs third year apprentices, which includes the HVAC module, detailing, plan and specifications and basic CAD. Steve has been an instructor for three years, and has completed 2 years of instructor training through the “International Training Institute”.
JOURNEYMAN AT SME MECHANICAL
Brian is our HVAC Service instructor, and instructs fourth year apprentices and journeyman upgrade classes. Brian has been an instructor for two years, and has completed two years of instructor training, and two years of Service Instructor training through the “International Training Institute”.
JOURNEYMAN AT THE WALDINGER CORPORATION
Mike teaches the welding and industrial curriculum within our apprenticeship program, he will also teach welding and industrial related topics to journeymen. Mike has been a welding instructor for 6 years, and is also certified to teach O.S.H.A classes. Mike has completed 4 years of instructor training, and also attended classes to become certified to instruct O.S.H.A. Mike is a Certified Weld Inspector by the American Welding Society.
JOURNEYMAN AT AIR-CON MECHANICAL
Mark teaches Math to first year apprentices, and will also substitute in any of the other classes within the apprenticeship program. Mark has been an instructor for 8 years.
